Description

For sale is a coin that is quite rare in the uncirculated state.  It has substantial luster and very little toning.  This coin has lots of visual impact when you hold it in your hand.
This is a large coin with a diameter of 34.5 mm.  Its composition is 0.500 silver.  A bust of George V dominates the obverse.  The date 1919 is on the reverse, which has an arabesque pattern surrounding the denomination in Chinese and Malay with English lettering at the periphery.
The Straits Settlements is a former British Crown Colony situated on the Malay Peninsula of Asia.  The colony was administered by the East India Company until its abolition in 1858.  The Straits Settlements was a part of British India from 1858 to 1867 at which time it became a Crown Colony.  The Straits Settlements was dissolved in 1946 at which time it became part of Malaysia.
The coin has a catalog weight of 16.8500 gm.  The coin I offer has weight that is within mint tolerances, and it is not attracted to a magnet.
This coin has very few gouges, rubs, or scratches.  It does have however a pattern of very fine lines on the obverse and reverse.  Close examination shows that these are die scratch lines, not coin scratches.  Look at the enlarged photo.  The pattern of lines is visible inside the “O”s.  This would not be possible for coin scratches.  Instead the coin was struck with dies that had not been polished correctly.  As the coin was released by the mint in this condition, this pattern of fine lines is not regarded as coin damage, and so should not affect the coin grade.
NGC Price Guide on the NGC web site quotes 0 for MS 60.  A total of 105 have been graded by NGC with most (39) at MS 63.
Heritage Auction reports recent auction of this issue a number of different times.   A NGC MS 64 sold at auction for 0, a  PCGS MS 63 sold for 2, and a NGC MS 63 sold for 1.25.
